Chris Pratt may have lost Guardians of the Galaxy if actor didn't 'fail audition'

Chris Pratt could have lost his leading role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy if an iconic TV actor hadn’t “failed” his audition. As of this year, Pratt has reprised the role in six Marvel films and one television special.

Can you imagine a different actor playing Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in Guardians of the Galaxy and the Marvel franchise? A new interview with an actor from a beloved TV show revealed that the part could have been his if he did better during the audition stage.

Adam Brody could have played in Guardians of the Galaxy

Adam Brody could have played Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

The actor, who came to prominence with his role as Seth Cohen in the series The O.C., reflected on the lost opportunity but said that Pratt was the “better” choice in this instance.

“I wanted that one,” he said in the latest episode of Variety’s podcast. Brody agreed that Pratt was a “better” fit and added: “He is bigger, stronger, but tonally, I really dug it.”

The first Guardians of the Galaxy film debuted on July 21, 2014, and includes a star-studded cast with the likes of Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and others.

Other roles he lost

In the same interview, Brody reflected on other roles he lost in the past. The Seth Cohen actor revealed that he auditioned for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s 2002 rom-com Gigli but the role went to Justin Bartha.

“I remember in the end, [Affleck] died in a way that it still stays with me,” Brody said. “It’s like he’s sitting on the beach, he’s bleeding out and the sand just comes up and buries him… It was a nice image that they did not use in the movie at all.”

Brody was also interested in landing a role in the 2003 film Dumber and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd.

Adam Brody stars in a new Netflix movie

Adam’s latest project is the new Netflix film River Wild in which he appears alongside his wife Leighton Meester.

As per IMDB’s description, the movie follows a “pair of siblings who love but distrust each other as they embark on a white-water rafting trip with a small group. One of their friends from childhood turns out to be more dangerous than he appears.”

Most recently, he played Super Hero Freddy in the 2023 sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Seth Morris in the mini-series Fleishman Is in Trouble.
