Mrs. Bernice C. Hughes, 85, of Vossburg died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at her daughter’s residence.

Funeral services will be today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church in Vossburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes was a former worker at Ellisville State School.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alford and Savella Goins Carter.

She is survived by her husband Samuel Hughes of Vossburg; three sons, Charles (Mary) Hughes of Vossburg and Sam Hughes and Robert Hughes, both of Laurel; two daughters, Doris (Lee) McKenzie of Laurel and Gladys (Jeffery) McKenzie of Clinton; special cousin Johnell Barnett Satcher of Alamagordo, N.M.; five brothers-in-law, Johnny (Laverne) Hughes of Tylertown, Luther Hughes and Archie (Mary Alice) Hughes, all of Vossburg, and Tommie Lee Hughes and T.J. (Vernell) Hughes, all of Laurel; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Taylor of Vossburg and Ella Bradford of Forest; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
